Only 13% of Baltimore city students are considered proficient or advanced in reading.

This means that 87% of students in Baltimore city could use some serious help with reading. Reading, like basic math, is fundamental. Youth don't master reading and reading comprehension are at a sever advantage. They struggle throughout school and are less likely to pursue post-high school education. Adults with only a high school diploma earn 84% less than their counterparts with a Bachelors degree.

How do we fix this?

Our Solutions:

  • We making reading fun!

When youth view reading as a fun social activity, rather than a boring assignment, everything changes!

  • We meet students where they are!

Youth in the program receive individualized support from a trained volunteer to help them improve their reading skills, no matter their current level.

  • We're about more than books!

Our Volunteer Mentors care deeply about their reading partners and are committed to developing long-lasting bonds that go beyond reading books.
